Return to the Blackheath Society

The Blackheath Conservatoire of Music & the Arts has been at the heart of musical and artistic life in south east London for nearly 125 years.

Today, BCMA is a vibrant open-access arts education community for people of all ages which offers a broad range of opportunities.  Instrumental and vocal lessons on a one-to-one basis lead from first steps with most instruments (and voice) on through to preparation for entrance to university and music college.  Our range of styles includes jazz, classical and world music and each year we promote over 40 concerts, masterclasses and workshops for musicians of all ages and abilities.  Early Years music classes are provided for children from the age of 3 months.

Our visual arts enjoy the benefits of our wonderful late Victorian studio and classes are presently offered in Drawing & Painting, Watercolour Painting & Techniques and Towards Abstraction in Painting and there is a range of classes with broader appeal in Italian, French, English Literature and Wine Appreciation.

We run a progressive drama programme for children from 4 upwards.

There are holiday workshops in art, music, drama and dance during  all the main holidays and half term holidays with the exception of Christmas for children aged 4-16.
